The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Usman Gwari, told newsmen at the Amawbia headquarters of the command in Awka that the suspect had been in the business at the Onitsha Main Market for 10 years.
The police boss said the suspect had given useful information about his other two associates, whom he promised would soon be arrested.
He said the cache of arms recovered from the suspect included automatic pump action riffles, double barrel guns and cartridges.
Gwari also said the two suspected kidnappers, Anthony Okweke and Ejike Okwosa were arrested by the command.
He said that the suspects had confessed to several kidnap cases including that of a woman at Ebenebe in Awka North council area.
He said the police rescued a victim taken from Inland Town Onitsha, following a tip off after the suspects had abandoned their red Honda car.
Gwari said that three AK-47 riffles and 10 magazines loaded with 100 rounds of 7.6 mm live ammunition were recovered from the car.
The commissioner assured the people of the state that the command was on the trail of the fleeing suspects, adding that they would be apprehended.
He commended Gov. Willie Obiano for his support to the command, saying that the successes recorded so far were largely because of his assistance. (NAN)
