Benin – The Police in Edo said on Friday that four persons had been arrested in connection with the alleged assassination of the Chief Priest of the Arougba community in the Oredo Local Government Area.
The state’s Police/Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Osifo, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin, said that the case had been transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, for further investigation.
The Chief Priest of the Arougba community, Pa Clifford Omosowan, was allegedly assassinated in his residence in Arougba in the early hours of March 3.
Omosowan, who was shot in the head by unknown persons at about 5:00 a.m., was said to be partially visually impaired at the time of his murder.
In January 2015, the Assistant Head of the Community, Chief Goodluck Uwumahongie, was beheaded during a crisis in the community over the sale of land.
The assailants allegedly made away with the deceased’s head, which had yet to be found, although the victim had since been buried.
No fewer than 10 persons were killed in that crisis, while several houses, vehicles and motorcycles, were set ablaze. (NAN)
