Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested an alleged Islamic cleric, Toafeek Ajisomo, 50; and two others for kidnapping a 11-year old, Aminat Ishola and later killed her after eight days in captivity.
Sundiata Post gathered that the kidnappers carried out the criminal act on May 21, around 7.30pm at Arugudu near Ijoko Otta in Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area of Ogun State and took her to Osun-Jegede in Ibadan, Oyo State where the girl died after the Islamic Cleric, Taofik Kola Ajisomo, in whose house the victim was kept, administered some substances suspected to be poison on her.
The Police operatives in Agbado Division of Ogun State Command had earlier arrested the mastermind of the crime, one Babatunde Aderonmu, 21; after he was suspected and reported to the police by the guardian and relations of the deceased. But he was later transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Ogun State Office in Abeokuta for further Investigation.
The suspects, after the death of the victim, reportedly put her corpse in a sack and dumped it in front of Ogbere Police Division in Ibadan to escape punishment.
Knowing that the abducted girl had been killed, the suspects were still making calls to the relations of the deceased, demanding ransom of N2 million before the deceased could be released.
In order to get away with the crime, the mastermind, Babatunde Aderonmu, Shina Damilare and the cleric, contacted a prophetess (name withheld) in Osun-Jegede in Ibadan, Oyo State capital to send her account details in which certain amount of money would be dropped to appreciate her prayers and God’s mercies on them over time.
The prophetess did and the suspects eventually sent the account details to the family of the suspects to drop the ransom of N300,000 as agreed contrary to their earlier demand of two million naira.
DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command said that the SARS operatives led by the officer in charge, SP Mohammed Tijani, swung into action by adopting all available and legitimate strategies to arrest the other two suspects – Shina Damilare and Taofik Kola Ajisomo (the Alfa), after the arrest of the mastermind, Babtunde Aderonmu.
Babatunde Aderonmu, is a sacked staff member of the bakery of the victim’s guardian in Ijoko Otta, Ogun State where he was dismissed by the victim’s guardian as a result of his alleged dubious acts.
The Police Public Relations Officer, however said that suspects had confessed to the crime and were assisting the police in its investigation, just as he revealed that the corpse of the deceased has been kept in a morgue and that autopsy was being carried out on it.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Val Ntomchukwu has commended the Police operatives for the good job and directed that the suspects be caused to face full wrath of the law, adding that other members of the gang and those who venture into such criminal acts be arrested and brought to book as soon as possible.
