PORT HARCOURT – The Rivers Police Command said on Wednesday that it had arrested nine cult members belonging to the De-well and Degbam groups in Okwuzi Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
This is contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt.
The release that was signed by the command’s spokesman, DSP Muhammad Ahmad, said the arrest followed a distress call.
According to it, the call has indicated that a clash between the groups was imminent, hence the police averted it by arresting seven suspects, while others fled.
It also said that a group of students were initiating new members behind the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, when police stormed the venue.
It said that the police arrested two persons there; a final year student of RSUST and a graduate of Cross River State University,while the others fled.
‘’The command is warning criminals and their likes to desist from such acts or be ready to face tough time as the command is fully ready to take an aggressive onslaught to their enclaves,’’ the statement said.
It said items recovered from the groups include; one pump action gun; seven live cartridges and one double barrel gun.
Others include;a Honda jeep; Toyota Camry saloon car; two laptop computers and assorted charms, and one Beretta pistol. (NAN)
