Police bust illegal weapons manufacturing factory, arrest 2 in Benue

BENUE (Sundiata Post) – Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested two suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, for alleged manufacturing of illegal weapons.

This follows a well-coordinated operation that led to the discovery of an illegal weapons manufacturing factory at Tse Akamabe in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noted that 9 locally fabricated pistols, 1 locally fabricated Ak47 riffle (unfinished), 2 gas cylinders, 4 vise machines, 1 filing machine and numerous other weapons manufacturing tools were recovered during the raid.

In another development, Adejobi said police operatives attached to the Delta State Command acting upon credible intelligence raided an apartment in DSC belonging to an alleged notorious 32-year-old Eiye confraternity member named Prosper Akeni, who is a hit man for the cult group.

Recovered from the operation were 1 English revolver pistol, 1 berretta pistol, 2 locally made double barrel gun, 2 locally made single barrel gun, 1 locally made revolver pistol, 1 locally made single barrel pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition.

According to the police PRO, the suspect confessed the guns recovered belonged to his cult group and he was in custody of them as the number one man in the group.

Equally, the police said its operatives on December 31, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM, arrested Yunusa Haruna, a 25-year-old male from Bakin Turu Village in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, who allegedly fatally stabbed his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, with a sharp knife in the chest.

Also, another suspect, one Abubakar Ummar, was arrested in Zuru Village on 8th January 2025 for allegedly stabbing one Mohammed Bala during an argument leading to his immediate demise.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the operatives for these milestone achievements in the fight against crime and criminality, and has charged police operatives to intensify efforts in ensuring sanctity is restored across the country.

The IGP further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant at all times and share useful information to the Police in order to have a community-based policing system.
