The Imo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), has launched an intensive investigation to unravel the cause of death of one of its men found dead in the street of Owerri, the state capital.
The body of the policeman, identified as Haruna Kaura, was reportedly found dead at the Alvana Shell Camp road in Owerri on Tuesday morning, April 28, with bruises and lacerations, sparking off suspicion that he may not have died of natural causes.
Orlando Ikeokwu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), and the spokesman of the command, disclosed that the deceased was of the ‘18 Police Mobile Force’ but attached to Imo Government House, Owerri.
According to reports, which said the deceased had gone out for a nightout on Monday, his body was covered with bruises, raising the suspicion that he was assassinated, adding that though the cause of death was still unknown yet, authorities were being cautious because of fears of Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Ikeokwu: “A team of policemen were dispatched to the scene where the body was identified as Inspector Haruna Maura of No. 18PMF Swuadron attached to Government House,” adding that the deceased was suspected to have been murdered.
