Enugu – The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mohammed Danmallam, on Monday charged residents of communities in Ezeagu Local Government Area to maintain cordial relationship with their neighbours.
Danmallam gave the charge during a meeting he held in Enugu with traditional rulers, President-Generals of communities, chairmen of neighbourhood watch groups and chairmen of Fulani communities in the area.
The police boss emphasised the need for brotherly love and co-operation among the Fulani communities, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association and their host communities.
He charged them to sustain the unity existing among them in the area and in the state to enhance socio-economic development, stressing that nothing could be achieved without an atmosphere of peace, security and safety.
In a brief remark, Igwe Harford Agana, the traditional ruler of Amandim Olo community in the area council, described the meeting as the first of its kind.
Agana, who is also the Chairman, Enugu West Traditional Rulers’ Council, gave an assurance that the traditional rulers would work toward sustaining the existing peace in Ezeagu and the entire state.
Responding, Alhaji Ardo Saidu-Baba, the Chairman, Fulani communities in Ezeagu Zone, thanked the Commissioner of Police for initiating the meeting, which he described as important.
“It is one right step that will help in the maintenance of peace between the herders and farmers in all the communities and in the state as a whole,’’ Saidu-Baba said.

Danmallam was accompanied to the meeting by Mrs Janet Agbede, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
Also on his entourage were Mr Frank Idu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Department of Operations, and the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu.
