ONITSHA – The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr Usman Gwari, has warned police officers and men against corruption and indiscipline.

Speaking at the Fegge Police Division in Onitsha South Local Government Area, Gwari warned the officers and men that they would not be spared in the event of any act of indiscipline.

“The command will not condone any act of indiscipline, especially as it bothers on collecting money to bail any suspect.

“Once you are caught collecting money for bail you are as good as sacked.

“You should desist from service to self and maintain a good reputation. I will not tolerate indecency and indiscipline in the course of your duty,’’ he said.

He said that four policemen had been dismissed for collecting money for the bail of suspects while two others were facing orderly room trial in Anambra.

The commissioner urged members of the public to report any policeman who collected money to the command with clear evidence.

Earlier, the Divisional Police Officer, Mr Rabiu Garba, expressed satisfaction that through proactive

measures the command had succeeded in reducing crime.

“Due to the commercial nature of the division, all manner of people are attracted here and this makes the area volatile.

“But our proactive measures like extensive patrols and intelligence gathering have made the area relatively crime-free,’’ Garba said. (NAN)
