The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted 27 senior police officers. This includes 11 Commissioners of Police (CP) elevated to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) promoted to Commissioners of Police (CP).
According to PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani, the promotions were announced after a rigorous process. The officers underwent both written and oral examinations at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters on Monday, December 16, 2024.
PSC Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, stated that written and oral exams would now be mandatory for promotions across all ranks in the Nigeria Police Force. He said, “Officers should continuously improve and expose themselves to global best practices, including proficiency in technology.”

Focus on Excellence and Service
DIG Taiwo Lakanu, fdc, Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Promotions, conducted oral interviews for the officers. He emphasized the importance of their roles, saying, “You must give your best in service. The Commission will ensure promotions remain timely and based on merit.”
Lakanu advised the officers to focus on the responsibilities of their new ranks and serve with dedication.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a merit-based promotion process and enhancing professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
