Enugu-The Enugu State Police Command has assured the residents of the state of a hitch-free Eid el-Fitri celebration.
A statement from its Public Relation Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, in Enugu on Thursday said that the command had fine-tuned its security strategy for a hitch free celebration in the state.
He said the security beef-up was sequel to directives from the inspector-general of police to commands to ensure adequate security with standard operation procedures before, during and after the celebrations.
Amaraizu said that the police would secure key and vulnerable points such as the Eid praying grounds and other places of worship, including public places and recreation centres.
The command also wished all Muslim faithful a happy Sallah celebration.
In another development, the police in a statement said that its operatives at Nsukka Division had scuttled an attempt by some hoodlums to rob a filling station in Nsukka on July 14.
“This became possible through a distress call received from a resident of the town.
“On arrival to the scene, the hoodlums opened fire at the operatives and in the ensuing gun duel, one of them became injured as others escaped,” it said.
The suspected hoodlum later gave his name as Fidelis Eze from Agbogazi Okutu in Nsukka Local Government Area.
The statement said that a pistol was recovered from the suspect. (NAN)
