Abuja – The Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Tuesday, inaugurated the expanded and extended INTERPOL i-24/7 Secure Global Communication Network System.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, who inaugurated the system, said when fully implemented, the expansion would enable frontline officers direct access to three major INTERPOL databases.
He said that the system would be extended to other law enforcement agencies and Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the country.
Idris said that the initiative came at a time when adequate collaboration and synergy was needed among relevant stakeholders to check activities of criminals in the country
He said that the partnership with other security agencies would enable the police achieve greater results in the fight against criminals.
” This I believe will reposition our great country Nigeria amongst the committee of nations for more developmental strides,” he said.
He said that the concept was consummated after an extensive meeting with INTERPOL technical experts from the Interpol General Secretariat in Lyon, France.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in charge of INTERPOL, Mr Olusola Zubair, said the initiative was strategic to the operations of security agencies in the country.
He said that the extension to other agencies was key as INTERPOL database was one of the most vital and robust source of intelligence and security.
Zubair noted that synergy was important as operations and training had brought huge successes.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the expansion and extension of the network system would allow other law enforcement agencies and MDAs in Nigeria direct access to INTERPOL databases.
