Over 40 cultism, armed robbery and kidnap suspects were on Saturday, in Calabar, paraded by the Nigeria Police force, Cross River State command.
Addressing newsmen at the command’s headquarters, its Public Relations Officer, ASP Hogan Bassey, said the suspects were arrested at different locations in the State.
This came barely few days after rival cult groups, Vikings and Scorpions clashed in Calabar south area of the State, leaving on its trail dead among its members.
An elderly man and local chief in the area whose name could not be confirmed at press time, was also paraded among the suspects for allegedly aiding and abetting cult activities.
His two sons who are suspected members of a cult group, it was gathered flee their home before the police arrival.
According to the PPRO, some dangerous weapons including locally made pistols and axes were recovered from the suspects.
Meanwhile, the head, criminal investigation and intelligence department in the command, Mr. Salami Ganiyu, has attributed the successful arrest of the suspects to the command’s proactive security strategies.
Ganiyu, who disclosed that the suspects would soon be made to appear before the Federal high court, assured of more arrest in order to rid the state of unscrupulous elements
He explained that his men were also closely monitoring the activities of the ‘Scolumbo’ boys in the metropolis to checkmate their excesses. (Leadership)
