Lafia – The Police in Nasarawa state has pledged to partner with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in crime prevention.
Mr Garba Shehu, the state’s Commissioner of Police, made the promise on Thursday in Lafia while receiving the state executive of the union.
However, Shehu advised the officials to ensure their members operate within extant laws and constitution of the country in their daily activities.
He said the command had machinery on ground to work in synergy with all stakeholders to eradicate the state of criminal elements.
The commissioner decried the attitude of some commercial drivers who collude with hoodlums to commit crime by robbing unsuspecting passengers of their belongings.
“Members of NURTW in the state must be contented with whatever they get in the course of their job, avoid greed and make good use of their income.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“Most cases of road accidents in the state are due to ungratefulness by some drivers who always want to hurry and return back quickly to make more money,’’ he said.
Besides, he enjoined the union to report any case of road accident and suspicious persons to the police and avoid taking the law into their hands.
Alhaji Adamu Salisu, the state Chairman of the union, had earlier pledged to support the commissioner and to make him aware of the union’s activities.
He told the commissioner that the union had cordial working relationship with the police in the state and assured the relationship would be sustained. (NAN)
