Osogbo – The police command in Osun on Tuesday announced the promotion of seven officers from Assistant Superintendent of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The promotion, which was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, was announced by the Commissioner of Police in state, Mr Kola Sodipo.
Sodipo said the Inspector-General of Police approved the promotion to avoid stagnation, which had been identified as one of the frustrating indices that engender corruption in the Nigeria Police.
He added that “this figure includes personnel who have consistently risked their lives and courageously confronted insurgents in the North East.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event also witnessed award of scholarship to six pupils of Police Children School.
The pupils who got the scholarship were Adebayo David, Ogunjumelo Akinremi, Adewole Deborah, Azeez Rahman, Salaudeen Mubarak and James Solomon.
The commissioner said that the scholarship was aimed at encouraging children of serving officers that exhibit academic excellence to excel in their studies.
“It is also conceptualised as part of the posthumous support scheme for children of the dead.
“Our professional colleagues who have gallantly paid the supreme sacrifice in the service of their fatherland need to be remembered at all times,’’ he said.
Sodipo also reviewed the activities of the command in the last quarter of 2015.
He said 18 vehicles were recovered from October 2015 till date, noting that crime rate in the state had reduced due to efforts of the police.
