Bauchi – The Police Command in Bauchi State on Thursday quelled protest by some residents of Missau against the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman as the new Emir of Misau.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed, disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi.
“At around noon on Thursday, some residents started burning tyres in protest against the appointment of the new emir.
“Our men were mobilized to the area and had succeeded in quelling the unrest and dispersed the protesters. Some of them were arrested,” he said.
He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Mohammed, was in the town to help restore peace.
The new emir was appointed by Gov. Mohammed Abubakar on Thursday to succeed the late Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Manga, who died on Aug. 17.
Before his appointment, Suleiman was the Secretary to Bauchi State Government. (NAN)
