Gusau – The police said it disrupted a meeting preparatory to committing crime by suspected cattle rustlers at Gobirawar Daji village of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara.
Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Sanusi Amiru disclosed this while displaying some of the weapons recovered from the gang before journalists.
He said the police were able to storm the criminals’ hideout in the bush on Sunday following a tip-off.
“On sighting our men, the criminals engaged them in a gun battle but the police overpowered them and they ran away leaving behind some of their weapons and motorcycles”, he said.
He said nine motorcycles, an AK 47 rifle and 15 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the fleeing bandits some of whom he said escaped with bullet wounds.
He said the command also arrested the five members of a gang that broke into a store in Gusau and stole 60 bags of soya beans.
He named those arrested as Mohammed Sani, Salisu Bakura, Lawal Usman, Umar Haruna and Ahmed Abubakar, pointing out that the conveyor vehicle and the grains had also been ecovered from the suspects.
He said while the police were still trailing the suspects on the run, those arrested would be investigated and if culpable, charged there after. (NAN)
