Jakarta – Police on Indonesia’s Sumatra Island on Friday said they recaptured at least 120 prisoners following a jailbreak involving about 200 inmates.
Scores of prisoners at the Sialang Bungkuk detention centre in Riau province rioted at around noon during a protest demanding better treatment, local police spokesman Guntur Aryo Tejo said.
They overpowered guards and broke the prison gate, he said.
“Most of the inmates who escaped were involved in drug and general crimes”, he said.
