EKET (Akwa Ibom) – The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) has appealed to customers in Akwa Ibom State to help in securing electric installations in the state to ensure regular power supply.
The Manager, Public Affairs of PHEDC, Mr John Onyi, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eket.
Onyi told NAN that the company was faced with a very serious challenge of vandalism of its installations in the area.
“We are battling with issues of vandalism; everywhere you go you will see that vandals have tampered with our transformers and other equipment.
“These vandals are carting away our amour cables, drilling oil from the transformers and removing the aluminium conductors.
“With this level of vandalism, you can’t get light when there is supply. So we appeal to the neighbourhoods to step up vigilance against this sabotage,’’ he said.
The manager, however, said that power supply had increased in Eket area in spite of the challenges faced by the company. [eap_ad_1] Onyi also appealed to electricity consumers in the area to pay their bills regularly so that the company can serve them better.
The manager explained that the slight increase in electricity bills was as a result of the increase in the amount of energy made available in the area.
He said: “PHEDC billings are regulated by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and energy used must be accounted for.
“Consumers should pay their bills regularly because we also buy electricity which we distribute from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).” (NAN)
