Okrika – The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) on Tuesday said it would continue to embark on projects that would impact positively on its host communities and improve its operations.
Dr Bafred Enjugu, the Managing Director of the company, said this at the inauguration of some projects for some communities in Okirika Local Government Area of Rivers.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that projects inaugurated included a block of six classrooms at Okrika National Secondary School and another block of seven classrooms at Ibuluya-Ama.
Others are : an access road, three water boreholes , three 500 KVA transformers and the perimeter fencing of Girls’ Secondary School in Ogoloma community.
Enjugu, represented by Mr Innocent Nwabueze, an official of PHRC, said that the management of the company embarked on the projects in line with the Federal Government’s position of increasing local refining capacity of the nation’s refineries.
According to him, the projects inaugurated and others yet to be completed are part of our commitment to improve our corporate social responsibility with our host communities.
“PHRC , recognising the need for economic empowerment and human capital development for its host communities, has embarked on skills’ acquisition and poverty alleviation programmes as well as micro-credit scheme,” he said.
The Managing Director said a market situated at Ekerekana-Ama community was at an advanced stage of completion.
In his response, Chief Nemi Adoki, Chairman of Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs, commended the company and urged others to embark on more projects in the area to empower its residents.
He appealed to PHRC to immediately commence projects captured in its 2015 operational year, adding that the inaugurated projects were captured in 2014.
Adoki said the projects when awarded and completed, would reduce the sufferings of the people of the communities. (NAN)
