ALESA-ELEME (RIVERS) – The Managing Director, Port Harcourt Refining Company, Dr Bafred Enjugu, said on Thursday that the company would continue to meet its Corporate Social Responsibility to host communities.
Enjugu disclosed this at Alesa-Eleme, at the maiden graduation of 60 youths from Eleme and Okrika [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]communities trained under its Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme.
‘’As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, Port Harcourt Refining Company is committed to the [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]development of her host communities of Eleme and Okrika,’’ he said.
He said that the company launched the training in January, 2014 to develop youths through vocational training in various skills.
‘’ Today, after 12 months of meticulous training, we proudly present you as pioneers of the scheme,’’ he [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]said.
Enjugu said the programme would assist reduce youth unemployment and social vices in its host
[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]
communities.
He said the second set of trainees would soon be selected to undergo vocational training.
Mr Ralph Ugwu, Executive Director Services at the Refinery, said the programme was aimed at achieving wealth creation through capacity building.
‘’ This wealth creation and poverty alleviation programme was borne out of our unwavering quest and commitment towards the economic empowerment and human capital development of our host communities, in furtherance of our Corporate Social Responsibility,’’ he said.
Ugwu said the youths were trained in vocational skills like Welding and Fabrication, Carpentry and Woodworks, Plumbing and Pipefitting, Fashion designing, Masonry and Interlocking blocks Moulding, Plaster of Paris Casting.
They were also trained in Beauty Therapy, Catering, Automobile Mechanic, Information and Computer Technology and Production of Household items.
Mr Kenneth Itelima, trained in ICT, from Okrika community, commended the company for affording them opportunity to be self employed.
He urged the company to continue with the training to make more youths benefit and be self employed.
Miss Catherine Nne Olaka, trained in Fashion Designing, from Eleme, also commended the company and assured that she would train other youths in her community when she gets her starter packs. (NAN)
