IBADAN (SUNDIATA POST)- The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Oyo State Chapter, has reiterated its commitment to enhancing the welfare of police officers’ wives and children.
POWA Chairperson in the state, Mrs Doyinsola Ayo-Sonubi, said this in Ibadan on Saturday while donating relief materials to 303 wives of slain and serving officers in the state.
Ayo-Sonubi said 60 beneficiaries were from the Late Police Officers’ Wives Association (LAPOWA), 103 from the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), and 104 from the Police Wives Association (PWA).
“POWA is a non-governmental and a non-profit organisation, dedicated to providing humanitarian support to the families of police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
“Through empowerment initiatives, we aim to enhance the lives of these families, offering amenities and support to the wives and children of our brave officers.
“As the POWA chairperson, I have had the privilege of witnessing the dedication and resilience of our members’ spouses who tirelessly work to ensure our safety and security,” she said.
Ayo-Sonubi, wife of the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Ayodele Sonubi, appreciated those who contributed to the success of the programme.
She expressed optimism that the support would ease the burden of beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the CP called the attention of well-meaning Nigerians to the plights of wives and children left behind by deceased police officers.
According to him, the force will continue to do its parts to touch the lives of serving and deceased police officers’ families.
The Chairperson of the occasion, the wife of the Oyo State governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, appreciated the police officers for putting their lives in line to secure the people.
Makinde said it couldn’t have been an easy experience losing one’s family breadwinner because it would shift the family’s responsibilities to one person.
She, therefore, appreciated the dedication of POWA in bringing succour to the families of the deceased police officers’ wives.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports highlights of the occasion include award presentations to the governor’s wife, the CP and others. (NAN)
