Abuja – An Abuja based Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Yahya Al-Yolawi, has admonished Muslims to prepare for the life in the hereafter by obeying the commandments of Almighty Allah.
Al-Yolawi, who is the Chief Imam of Area 10 Mosque, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
The cleric said that death was a reality in which all human beings accept and believe in; stressing that preparing for death is a lifetime’s assignment.
He explained that in Islam, death was not an end to existence of a human being, adding that it is a passage which takes mankind from the world to the grave and hereafter.
“Whether we like it or not it will certainly come to everyone of us. Muslims’ success or failure at the time of death depends on how much he prepared before that day.
“It begins on the day one reach the age of adolescence where he will be responsible for his deeds for the rest of his or her life.
“Once death arrives, the opportunity to do well or worship ceases and it will be too late to repent as our final destination depends largely on the kind of beliefs and deeds exhibited during our life time,’’ said Al-Yolawi.
He said that righteous deeds was the only preparation for death, adding that no one has a clue to when and where he/she will die.
Al-Yolawi, therefore, advised Muslims to cultivate the habit of visiting graveyard and attend funeral prayers as part of ways to remember death.
He said that remembering death reduces worldly material inclination from the hearts of the faithful, thereby leading to peace and contentment in life.
“Remembrances of death also eliminates arrogance and oppression from evil doers as well as inculcates in Muslims the spirit of humility and humbleness,’’ the cleric said. (NAN)
