The Nigerian presidency on Sunday revealed full details of President Bola Tinubu’s meeting with Massad Boulos, a Senior Advisor for Africa from the United States Department.
President Tinubu had met with Boulos in Paris on Thursday during his visit to France.
According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the meeting focused on building a strategic economic and security partnership between Africa, Nigeria, and the United States.
He said the partnership is expected to be based on mutual respect, and aimed at promoting prosperity and regional stability.
Onanuga also noted that Boulos mentioned President Donald Trump’s interest in improving direct engagement with Nigeria, which he described as a key country in America’s relations with West Africa.
He said Boulos informed President Tinubu that the U.S. President is keen on working with him to increase America’s investments in Nigeria and the African continent.
Onanuga stated, “Both sides discussed actionable support and shared their perspectives on regional peace, particularly in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and across the Sahel.
“President Trump’s advisor recognised Nigeria’s regional and continental leadership and supported President Tinubu’s interventions to stabilise key African regions,” he said.
During their conversation, President Tinubu assured the U.S. advisor that Nigeria is ready to form productive partnerships with the Trump administration.
The President said he believes this alliance should be based on transparency, opportunity, mutual respect, and results that will strengthen Africa’s role in the global economy.
