Abuja – Mrs Ogungbemi Olabisi, has urged Nigerians to support the National school Feeding Programme aimed at increasing school enrolment and education participation of young girls to ensure a better future.
Olabisi, a Humanitarian Liaison Officer in the Office of the Vice- President, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
She said one important policy of the present administration in Nigeria was the National School Feeding Programme that would motivate young Nigerian girls to enrol and get quality education.
” Education is the surest way by which they can compete with their male counterparts to reduce the inequality that exists today.
“Be assured that this government is passionate about women development and gender equality generally,” she said
Olabisi said that the Sustainable Development Goals programme, designed to run for 15 years, was headed by a woman.
She expressed the hope that the programme would be implemented to lift millions out of poverty, educate children, reinvigorate health service delivery, among others.
“This government also believes that women should be part of the serious business of governance.
“And if you take a look at the composition of the government you will find out that women have been given significant roles to play in the implementation of our policies and programmes,” she said
“This government is fully committed to the security of lives and property of all Nigerians and the empowerment of our women to promote inclusive growth.
“This is why the Buhari -led government has risen to the occasion of fighting insecurity head-on in the northeast by setting up Multi-National joint Task Force to ensure that insurgents are degraded and peace restored to that part of the country.
“Very importantly, this government is determined to liberate the Chibok girls from their abductors and re-integrate them into the larger society, ” she said. (NAN)
