ONITSHA – The Campaign for Democracy (CD), a pressure group, on Thursday urged the Federal Government to honour the late Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Dora Akunyili, with a national burial.
A statement from its Anambra chapter Chairman, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, in Onitsha noted that the honour was to appreciate her role in re-shaping and re-orienting the citizens of the country.
The statement regretted that Akunyili died at a moment when her services and forthrightness were needed at the national conference.
“Prof. Akunyili was honest, humble, intelligent, fearless, outspoken and a great woman by any standard, considering her tremendous accomplishments.
“Her contributions to the nation’s academics, socioeconomic and political development was unparalleled in this country.
“It is clear that Nigerians are proud of late Prof. Akunyili, who stood out to be a shining light in the country,’’ it said. (NAN)
