ABUJA – Dr Ado Muhammad, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has been declared winner of Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award and Africa Leadership ICON 2014.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Sa’adu Salahu, Head, Public Relations Unit of the agency in Abuja on Thursday.
It stated that the “ Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award and Africa Leadership ICON 2014 is awarded by All-Africa Students’ Union (AASU).
“It is the continental representative organisation of Democratic Students Unions founded in 1972 at University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
“It has other 54 member unions from Francophone and Anglophone Africa countries,’’ it said.
The statement said the decision of the continental body was informed by Muhammad’s commitment and dedication to service as exemplified in the giant strides of NPHCDA since his assumption.
“This is due to his unprecedented progress in polio eradication in Nigeria and repositioning of Primary Health Centres as the cornerstone of our health system,’’ it noted.
It said that the organisation congratulated Muhammad for winning the covetous award and urged Nigerian in leadership position to emulate his worthy example.
The statement said that past recipients of the award include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prince Bola Ajibola and Chief Afe Babalola.
“The Award’s investiture is to be conducted in a date to be announced later,’’ it stated.
The statement stated that Muhammad thanked the organisation for the greater honour done him.
He reiterated his commitment to the realisation of the presidential transformation agenda in the PHC sub-sector.
The statement stated that Comrade Yinka Dallas, Nigeria’s Representative of AASU, presented the award to Muhammad in Abuja.
It noted that the 71st Conference of AASU, held at OATTU Conference centre, Accra, from 11 to 14 June, unanimously endorsed him as 2014 winner of the award.
The organisation is an affiliate of the International Union of Students and has a consultative status with UNESCO, ECOSOG, UNICEF, ECOWAS and AU.
It was accredited with UNCCD and enjoys a cordial working relationship with the UN System. (NAN)
