ABUJA – A General Manager at National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Hajiya Asmau Mohammed, on Thursday said public primary schools pupils across the country would soon begin to access free health care services.
Mohammed stated this while speaking at NHIS Day at the ongoing 9th Abuja International Trade Fair organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMA).
She said that the organisation had come up with various all-inclusive products on the health insurance scheme, adding that the primary school pupils’ scheme entitled them to free health services.
She said that the agency had also designed an insurance scheme for students of tertiary institutions.
Mohammed, who is head of NHIS’ head of marketing, said that the scheme had come up with “Community Based Health Insurance Programme (CBHIS)” for rural and unreached communities in the country.
According to her, CBHIS is a non-profit social health insurance programme for a cohesive group of households or occupation-based groups.
Earlier the Chief Executive Officer of NHIS, Dr Femi Thomas, said that the health insurance scheme had been restructured to provide better services to the people.
“We have restructured various departments in the organisation to help the scheme to actualise its goal.
“Today, being a special day for the NHIS at the trade fair, the whole idea for the scheme is to showcase its products to the general public and give update on its activities. According to Thomas, the agency has motivated its workforce and also made its presence known in some states and communities as well as to the people we want to serve.
He said that the scheme had also been designed in a way that it could be accessed and processed through a dedicated telephone line.
He commended the organisers of the fair for recogninsing NHIS as one of the best healthcare schemes. (NAN)
