Abuja – Mr Ibrahim Ladan, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Niger, has had called on Muslims and other religious faithful to engage in activities capable of promoting peace and understanding.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Information Officer to the SSG, Mr Lawal Tanko, Ladan said such activities should endure during and after Eid-el Kabir.
“The feast of Eid-el Kabir is a test of faith in commemoration of the sublime submission by Prophet Ibrahim to the call for sacrifice.
“There is the need for the residents of Niger to rededicate themselves to the service of God Almighty.
“Islam teaches peace, good neighbourliness and kindness, therefore, people of the state should continue to promote love, harmony, peaceful co-existence as well as respect for one another at all times,’’ he said.
According to him, the occasion will serve as a constant reminder to all Muslims to live a life of sacrifice for the common good of the nation and people of other faiths.
He said further that Gov. Abubakar Bello of the state was committed to the development of the state, using available resources for the benefit of the people.
He, therefore, called on the citizens to support the programmes and policies of the present administration which he said were designed to better the lots of the citizenry.
Ladan also urged Muslims to use the period of the Eid-el Kabir to pray for the safety of other brothers and sisters on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
According to him, the spiritual exercise will rejuvenate them for enviable contributions to the socio-economic development of the state.
