LAGOS – Rev. Fr. Maximilian Nwosu, Visiting Priest of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Ojo, Lagos, has called on parents to always promote unity among the family members.
Nwosu made the call at a sermon on Sunday during a mass to mark the Year of the Family in the church calendar.
He bemoaned the recent spate of division among family members in the society, saying: “In the Bible, the union of marriage and family was first instituted by Jesus during the wedding feast in Galilee.
“It is the original purpose of God for Christians to live together in unity in line with biblical injunctions; but, in recent times, some families have relegated this plan of God.’’
He observed that some children saw their parents as visitors in the homes because such parents denied them the parental care they required.
He said: “The unity of any family largely depends on the woman who is duty bound to nurture peace and promote love in the home.
“However, some women by their conduct, propelled chaos in the family by showing disloyalty to their husbands.
“Unity is an integral part of family living and its management lies in the hands of the mother of the home.’’
He advised families to shun division and urged children to honour their parents to reap the blessings of God.
The highpoints of the celebration included candlelight session and renewal of baptismal promises to God by the parishioners. (NAN)
