LAGOS (SUNDIATA POST)- The popular Computer Village in Ikeja was a shadow of its boisterous self on Thursday, even as traders shunned participating in the nationwide protest.
The chairman, Ikeja Computer Village Market Board, Chief Adebowale Shoyebo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the market was not part of the protest.
He said that the traders had been directed to go on with their normal businesses.
NAN reports that despite the assurance of a peaceful environment, most shops remained under lock, as the market wore a solemn look.
‘There is no problem in Computer Village. We have told them to come to their shops,’’ Shoyebo said.
Also, the Phone and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (PAPDAN) of the Computer Village said its members were not joining the protest.
The President, PAPDAN, Mr Ifeanyi Akubue, said that its members were told to monitor the situation before coming out for normal business.
Akubue said that the Computer Village remained opened for business and transactions.
‘’We have informed our members that the Computer Village will be opened and any member who desires to carry out any business is free as there are no restrictions,” Akubue said.
Despite this assurance, there was no trading and some shops were under lock when NAN visited.
“We are not against peaceful protest. It is one of the democratic rights of every citizen to hold government accountable,” Akubue said.
He encouraged government to, however, meet the demands of the citizens and not allow issues to degenerate before taking actions. (NAN)
