Abuja  –   Some male makeup artists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday said they were satisfied with their line of business, known to be the exclusive preserve of women before now.

They made this known in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The makeup artists said although the application of facial cosmetics to enhance ones beauty was popular and trendy among women, there was nothing wrong if a male ventured into it.

According to Hope Yusuf, men who are into makeup are only pursuing what they are passionate about in order to earn a living.

“Well, it is what I am passionate about and I have the skill, so I have to make use of it instead of staying without doing anything.

“If you really know why you are doing it, you can cope with it even if your friends make mockery of you,” he added.
Fidah Leo, who is also a student at the University of Abuja said that if male tailors could make female clothing, there was nothing wrong with one being a male makeup artist.

“I see it just like other vocations such as tailoring and hair making, so there is nothing wrong if a man engages himself in it as long as he is good at it.

“Since makeup is now very trendy among women nowadays, there are a lot of opportunities to make money from it,’’ he added.

Paul Obi, a specialist in fixing artificial eye lashes and nails said that it was the lack of employment that pushed him into the trade, adding “I have been very satisfied doing it’’.

“I never wanted to be a makeup artist but the economic situation in the country made me to go into it.

“Although it makes one find himself always among women, I have not regretted it,’’ he said. (NAN)
