Osogbo – Dr David Okon, an expert in social work and community development, has urged the Federal Government to provide palliatives to citizens to enable them live meaningful lives.
Okon gave the advice in Osogbo on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the import of Section 14 of the Nigerian Constitution which provided for security and well-being of citizens should be all-inclusive.
According to him, that section of the constitution makes the provision for palliatives to the economically-disadvantaged citizenry mandatory.
Okon said that social safety net could reduce the rate of crimes and other social vices that threatened peaceful-co-existence of the nation.
“It is obvious that what really determines the consciousness of a man is his economic condition.
“The Federal Government should make provision for economic solace for every citizen including the downtrodden.
“No individual should be left to suffer; it is the duty of the government to make life better for every individual, irrespective of status, “ Okon said.
