Minna – Niger College of Agriculture, Mokwa, was not accredited to run some important academic programmes due to deplorable infrastructure and inadequate manpower, Dr Aliyu Mohammed, the Provost of the institution, has said.
Mohammed, who made the statement on Monday in Minna while addressing newsmen, appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the college in upgrading its facilities.
He said the College had suffered untold hardship since its inception due to infrastructure and manpower deficits.
“We have lost some important academic programmes due to non accreditation as a result of the pathetic state of some of the College’s laboratories,’’ he said.
The Provost pointed out that the college, a Higher National Diploma-awarding institution, had produced qualified manpower in all fields of agriculture for the state and the country.
He expressed regret that successive governments in the state had not paid serious attention to the development of the college and stressed the need for the current administration to tackle these challenges.
“We want Gov. Abubakar Bello to visit us so that he can see things for himself and proffer immediate solutions, ‘’ he said.
He said that delisting the institution from benefiting from the Tertiary Education Fund had adversely affected the development of infrastructure.

Mohammed said the only means of meeting the infrastructure needs of the college was through Internally Generated Revenue such as school fees and other funds, which were inadequate. (NAN)
