Moscow – Russian President, Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, on Monday reaffirmed that they would uphold peaceful ways to resolve the Korean Peninsula impasse.
During a phone conversation, both leaders agreed that “the settlement of this acute crisis is possible only by political and diplomatic means, by resuming negotiations of all parties involved,’’ according to a Kremlin statement.
“Russia and Germany would continue discussion of the Peninsula at the level of foreign ministers,’’ it said.
It said that Putin and Merkel strongly condemned the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s disregard of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
They said that Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile activities, which were contrary to the principles of global non-proliferation, posed serious threat to regional peace and security.
The DPRK claimed earlier this month that it had successfully detonated an H-bomb, which could be carried by an intercontinental ballistic missile.
