KANO – The Hulbe Development Association of Nigeria (HULDAN) has called on its members in Kano State to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration by INEC before the expiration of the deadline for the exercise on Wednesday.
Following the extension of the period for the registration by two days, the exercise will now end on Nov.19 instead of Nov. 17.
The National Chairman of the association, Alhaji Ahmed Torob, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.
He said the association found it necessary to remind its members of the need to make the best use of the opportunity provided by INEC in order not to be left out in the exercise.
He noted that the extension of the period by two days would enable many eligible voters who hitherto could not meet the earlier deadline to register now.
According to him, any eligible voter who refuses to register is not only doing a disservice to the country, but also cheating himself by not exercising his civic responsibility.
‘’No matter how we want to elect credible and responsible leaders, we cannot do so if we fail to obtain the Permanent Voter Cards which is the prerequisite for voting.
‘’INEC deserves to be commended for the extension of the period by two days as it will enable prospective voters to register.
‘’Even though Fulanis have a large population in the country, most of us live in the rural areas so the extension of the period is a great gesture to us, ’’ he said.
Torob further appealed to his members across the country to live in peace with their host communities, to ensure peace, unity and development in the country.
‘’No society can achieve any meaningful development in an atmosphere of chaos and uncertainty, hence the need for peaceful coexistence,’’ he added. (NAN).
