PVC: Ikuforiji, Pitan, dissatisfied with distribution

LAGOS – Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, on Sunday expressed dissatisfaction at the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state.

Ikuforiji told newsmen in Lagos that he collected his PVC on Saturday at a distribution centre opposite the Police College in Ikeja.

He said that he could not obtain the PVC on Friday when the exercise was scheduled to commence due to absence of INEC officials.

“It is not only sad but totally unacceptable.

“It was not funny at all; first, INEC said it would distribute the PVCs to only 11 out of the old 20 local government areas of our state for three days.

“At the end of it all, it was confusion all the way,’’ he said.

The speaker said that patriotic citizens of Lagos State had trooped out to collect their cards on Friday but were disappointed.

“Nigeria can definitely do better than this at this time,’’ he said.

Ikuforiji appealed to Lagos residents to remain patriotic and be ready at all times to discharge their civic responsibilities.

The speaker advised INEC to be more effective in the PVCs distribution to ensure that no eligible voter would be disenfranchised during the 2015 general elections.

Dr Leke Pitan, a former Commissioner of Health in the state, said that the state was populous and deserved special preparation for PVCs distribution.

Pitan, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged that some areas such as Ikeja, Agege, Eti Osa, Epe, Ibeju Lekki were not effectively handled by INEC.

NAN reports that INEC has extended the PVCs distribution in the state by a day.

The three-day exercise which began on Friday, will now end on Monday. (NAN)
