PORT HARCOURT – Private schools in Port Harcourt on Friday defied the work-free day declared by the Rivers Government for residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from INEC.
Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers had declared the work-free day for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
A check by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in some private primary and secondary schools in Port Harcourt showed that they were in session.
However, the pupils of some other public and private schools complied with the directive by sending their students and pupils back home.
The head teacher of one of the schools declined comments on the matter when NAN wanted to find out reasons for the non compliance with the work-free day.
Some teachers who pleaded anonymity, said they heard of the announcement about 8 p.m. on Thursday and that there was no way school authorities could inform the pupils at home.(NAN).
