Enugu – Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Sunday defeated visiting Akwa United FC of Uyo 3-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match was a week seven fixture of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Rangers dominated the match with better tactical play, and scored their first goal in the 29th minute from a shot within the penalty area through striker Bobby Clement.
The Flying Antelopes scored their second goal in the 61st minute through a shot by Tope Olusesi.
Their third goal came in the 74th minute through a direct free kick taken few metres from outside the penalty area by Chisom Egbuchulam.
At the end of the match, Rangers’ Technical Adviser, Imama Amapakabo, said he was elated by the brilliant performance of his team.
“We were on top of our game today (Sunday). We dominated the entire game to the admiration of our fans.
“We will work harder to maintain our present form and remain at the top of the league table,’’ he said.
The Interim Chairman of Akwa United, Paul Bassey, said his team performed dismally in the match.
Bassey, who was a veteran sports journalist, said there was a need to bring reform to the team by having more strikers.
He, however, hailed the Rangers’ team.
“The Rangers I watched today is not the one I saw in play last season. There has been a tremendous improvement.’’
NAN reports that spectators’ turnout for the match was impressive, doubling the numbers recorded in previous matches this season at the stadium.(NAN)
