ABUJA – The General Manager of Rangers International FC of Enugu, Paul Ozor, has called for equitable live coverage of matches in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Ozor, who made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said it was to avoid one team gaining undue advantage over the others.
He said the clubs and the League Management Company had agreed that teams whose matches were beamed live in their home ground would have the same fixture beamed live when the team played away.
“I hope they will stick to that,’’ Ozor said.
He said the company should be firm in ensuring the equitable transmission of live matches, the way it ensured good officiating of matches played so far in the league.
Ozor, who also spoke on Rangers home encounter with Sunshine Stars FC of Akure on Sunday, declared that the team had no option than to win the match.
He noted that the loss to Giwa FC of Jos, a league debutant, was an embarrassment to Enugu State and the club’s management.
“The players are really getting ready for the match; they know that the management of the team is not happy with them because of the loss to Giwa FC.
“It’s a disgrace to the state because as you know, Giwa FC is playing in the premier league for the first time.
“They trained this morning and will train again this evening and relax for the match tomorrow. However, they have assured me that they will win tomorrow,’’ Ozor added.
He further said that the players and their officials received their match bonus on Friday for the defeat of Kano Pillars in a week three encounter in Enugu.
According to Ozor, the payment was to boost the team’s morale for Sunday’s encounter with Sunshine FC.
The general manager, however, regretted that the club management was yet to see the result of the month-long pre-season training tour of Nnewi in Anambra it organised for the team.
He pointed out that the team embarked on the training tour to place it on a sound footing in preparation for the current season.
Ozor noted that the current set of players had never had it so good with the management, saying that the players needed to reciprocate expenses made on them with good results.
Nembe City FC of Bayelsa will face Akwa United FC of Uyo in another week five NPFL encounter on Sunday, while Abia Warriors will take on Kano Pillars.
Elsewhere, Crown FC of Ogbomoso will square up against Gombe United, as FC Taraba will host Enyimba FC of Aba, while Kaduna United will travel to Makurdi to engage Lobi Stars FC.
Other Sunday’s encounters are Heartland FC of Owerri versus Nasarawa United FC and Bayelsa United FC against El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri. (NAN)
