Esteemed journalist and renowned columnist, Ray Ekpu, has shared the passing of his beloved wife, Uyai Ekpu.
Mrs. Ekpu, aged 73, peacefully departed on April 21 following a brief illness, as disclosed by the journalist on Wednesday.
Ray Ekpu fondly reminisced, “Uyai was a dedicated staff member at the Centre for Management Development (CMD), retiring in 2011 as an Acting Director in the Management Education and Training Department.
“Uyai was an academic achiever, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Masters degree in Library Science from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. Additionally, she earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Enugu State University of Technology, as well as diplomas from prestigious institutions such as Maastricht School of Management and the Ghana Institute of Management and Personnel Administration.
“Beyond her academic pursuits, Uyai exemplified the virtues of family, community service, and inclusivity. She was a beacon of compassion and held a deep love for God.
“Uyai is survived by her husband, Ray Ekpu, and three cherished children: Elu Ray Mbakwe, Mfoniso Ray Ekpu, and Edikan Ray Osho. She leaves behind six adoring grandchildren, her elder sister Eneanwan Inyang, a retired school teacher, and a large circle of relatives.”
Ekpu, a former editor-in-chief and chief executive officer of Newswatch Magazine, stated that details regarding his wife’s funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.
