This story broke my heart for many reasons.
I can’t imagine what would make a mother dump her three year- old daughter with a benefactor and then disappear without trace. But then we live in interesting times where the world is getting stranger than fiction. Who knows what fate has befallen the lady?
God bless Jibrin, the paediatrician Uber driver and hero of this narrative, for his large heartedness. Nigeria needs more of him.
Beyond raising Joy, his adoptive daughter as a Muslim, I think he can also make an attempt to unite the girl with Chima’s family.
He could start by contacting Chima’s brother, the apprentice (mentioned in the story), not necessarily to make them take responsibility for her upbringing but more to let them know of her existence. It would appear Chima’s family is oblivious to the existence of Joy.
I imagine Chima’s family would be happy to know that their son had a daughter who is alive and well.
All said, thank you so much, Dr. Jibrin. Thank you for honouring the memory of your departed friend and colleague. You are truly a hero! In deed, you have become a friend who sticks closer than a brother. The universe 🌎 needs more of you!
We all share a common humanity!
