Lagos – Agitations for political and religious autonomy by any group would abate with massive government investment in Nigerian youths, a legal practitioner, Mr Augustine Ugwu, has said.
Ugwu also said that Nigeria’s domestic economy was not being optimally exploited to fully harness the potential of her human capital.
“Our young people are really restive and mutinous because they are idle,’’ the legal practitioner told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.
He noted that many youths felt that the State had not met their expectations, largely due to their ignorance of the potential inherent in the economy for their development.
He said there were many natural resources that were untapped and might remain idle to the disadvantage of the young people who supposedly were the future leaders.
“Every state in Nigeria can boast of not less than two or three natural resources.
“All we need is the necessary regulations and incentives to drive investors to tap our natural wealth for the good of all of us, particularly our psychologically alienated youths.
“Human resources development at this point in our history is the best legacy any government can hope to deliver and boast of.

“Policies geared toward training and retraining our productive and active population will yield good returns on investment ultimately too.
“Infrastructure upgrade alone will not translate to dividends without the human capital to put these projects to work,’’ Ugwu said. (NAN)
