Ilorin – An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 22 year –old receptionist, Bakare Ayodele, to two months imprisonment for stealing.
The court also ordered that the convict be given 10 strokes of the cane at the premises of the court for the same offence.
The Magistrate, Mrs Afusat Alege, who convicted Ayodele, did not give him option of fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Alhassan Jubril, told the court that the convict was arraigned on a count charge of theft which contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code .
Jubril had alleged that the convict committed the offence on Sept. 18, at Dolba Guest House where he worked as a receptionist.
He said the defendant was arrested for stealing a Galaxy 54 active and Itel GSM handsets belonging to the complainant, Aro Sola, who lodged in the hotel.
The prosecutor had asked the court to summarily try the convict after admitting committing the offence.
