IJEGUN – Papal Knights on Monday described late Dame Remi Oyo as a symbol of humility and simplicity toward people around her.
Speaking during the Christian wake organised by the Papal Knights in her residence in Ijegun, Ikotun, Lagos, Sir Stanislaus Umoren, said the late Dame Oyo touched several lives.
“Dame Oyo touched several lives in her life time, she cared for the poor, an achiever, a role model in both the media and the church where she distinguished herself,’’ he said.
Umoren, the representative of the Papal Knights of the Archdiocese of Lagos, noted that the late Oyo had lived a purposeful life.
He added that the reality of the legacy she left behind should be concentrated on and would speak for her.
“The world should emulate her life of humility, charity and professionalism in her cause of duty which everyone had been saying since after her death.’’
Also speaking, a member of the Papal Knights, Sir Roland Samugana said late Dame Oyo lived a simple life; the church will miss her life of service.
“This woman gave to the church silently without trying to identify herself, she worked in her private capacity without noise, I really benefited from her benevolence,’’ he said.
According to her only daughter, who broke down in tears, Mrs Okiemuote Abudiore, the demise of her late mother “is yet to be comprehended by her’’.
“I am yet to get words to describe the death of my mum, it sounds like a dream,’’ she told NAN.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that representatives from NAN, Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic Church, Ijegun, neighbours and friends were at the wake.
NAN also reports that over 350 sympathisers had signed the condolence register of late Remi Oyo, who died on Oct. 1 in London after a brief illness.
Other burial activities include a media night by the Guild of Editors and Requiem Mass by her parish in Ijegun.
