Falgore – Alhassan Doguwa Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, has urged politicians not to politicise security issues, saying security is synonymous with the well being of the nation and its citizens.
Doguwa gave the advice, while responding to question from newsmen at Falgore forest in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State after the “Exercise Kun Gama’’ organised by the army for its 77 Regular intake.
“I can never be one of the politicians politicising security issues.
“I have always taken security matters as priority. If there is anywhere security is being politicised, it is not in my place; not in place of the National Assembly,’’ the chief whip said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Doguwa spoke after he took part in a shooting exercise, where he fired from the General Purpose Machine Gun – GPMG and artillery.
He also called on Nigerians to continue to support the armed forces and other security agencies to boost their morale in tackling the numerous challenges confronting the nation.
“I do not think security is anything that should be politicised,’’ he said.
He said rather, the armed forces, especially the army should be commended for the various operations it was conducting to combat threats in order to make the country safe for all.
He said that before now, the Falgore forest was a no-go area but for the military, which had flushed out the bandits and convert the area to its training ground.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai had at an interaction with newsmen at Monguno in Borno alleged that security was being politicised, especially troops’ rotation in the North East.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians not to pressurise the army on the issue as it was being addressed professionally.
“You cannot use the issue of rotation to pressurise the army,’’ he said, adding troops rotation had “to do with national security and not politics as the army is apolitical and will remain so.’’
