Abuja – The House of Representatives on Wednesday in Abuja adjourned plenary to enable its standing committees complete work on the 2017 budget proposal.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the House had just reconvened on Tuesday,Feb. 21, after a three-week working recess.
Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas who confirmed this after Wednesday’s sitting said the brief suspension became necessary to allow members to concentrate on the budget.
According to Namdas, the budget is a very tasking job and we have done our best but honourable members need time off the plenary to put finishing touches on the budget.
“I believe by the time we reconvene on Tuesday Feb.28, we would have achieved much with the budget.
Namdas also commended the acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for communicating to the National Assembly on why he had to withhold assent to four bills.
He said that the National Assembly would take the request of the Federal Government for a resolution on the 500 million dollars Eurobond seriously.
“We are actually going to do something about it. We know that it is a very important issue, and we will take it very seriously.
“We have not concluded decisions on that, but I tell you we will take it very seriously,“he said.
Prof. Yemi Osinbajo had sought the approval of the National Assembly for the issuance of 500 million dollars Eurobond in the International Capital Market (ICM) to fund the 2016 budget deficit.
