Abuja –  The House of Representatives on Wednesday summoned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Alhaji Mohammad Bello, to appear before its Committee on FCT over taxes being collected in the territory.

The minister is expected to explain to the committee, why the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is collecting taxes in the nation’s capital and not the FCT Inland Revenue Service.

This followed a motion moved by Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas (Adamawa-APC) on matters of urgent public importance which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

There is, however, no specific date for the minister to appear before the committee.

Namdas, while moving the motion, said that the FCT Inland Revenue Services and its Management Board had authorised the FCT to establish a board that would collect all forms of taxes and levies.

“The Minister of FCT has signed a comprehensive agreement with the Federal Inland Revenue Service to collect taxes for the FCT, in breach of the existing law, “he said.

The committee is to report the outcome of its meeting with the Minister to the House within two weeks for further legislative action. (NAN)
