A House of Representatives committee will soon open an investigation into cases of alleged release of robbery suspects apprehended by security agencies in the country.
Chairman of the committee on National Security, Intelligence and Public Safety, Rep Muhammad Bello Mutawalle (PDP, Zamfara), who disclosed this during the weekend said the investigation became imperative to avoid “a bad precedence”.
Those found culpable would be “surely sanctioned,” he said.
“We will soon commence investigation into the matter because of its dangerous implications not only to the state but to the entire country. We will invite all those involved to find out who did what and I assure Nigerians that anyone found to be involved will surely be sanctioned no matter his status,” he said.[eap_ad_2]
Mutawalle also condemned the planned amnesty by government for suspected armed robbers who killed hundreds of people in Zamfara State.
He said the proposed amnesty being contemplated by the state government was nothing but a tacit support and endorsement for criminal activities in the state.
He alleged that “they have already concluded on how the so-called amnesty will be granted and implemented after pressurizing the federal government to approve it.”
He warned the federal government and President Goodluck Jonathan against approving the request.
He urged President Jonathan to instead open an investigation on the alleged backing of robbery suspects in the state by compelling the release of arrested suspects. (Daily Trust)[eap_ad_3]
