Pankshin (Plateau)- Mr Samuel Goar, the Chairman, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau, on Sunday, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for rescheduling the nation’s general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Saturday, announced new dates for the country’s general elections in a late night news conference in Abuja, citing security reasons.
Jega said the Presidential and National Assembly elections earlier slated for Feb. 14 would now hold on March 28, while governorship and House of Assembly polls previously scheduled for Feb. 28 would now hold on April 11.
The Pankshin chairman described the development as “good for democracy.’’

Goar, who described the shift in dates as “the right step and best decision’’, called on Nigerians, irrespective of inclinations to accept the decision in good faith.
He said “we were in a very tight corner in our democratic process before INEC took that painful and decisive step.
“I was so concerned about the fate of some good number of voters who had not gotten their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) but with the extension, they can now go and receive their PVCs.
He, however, called on INEC to ensure that the distribution of the PVCs to those who registered last December was effectively carried out in all polling units.
Goar also urged the people of Pankshin to take advantage of the shift to collect their PVCs and ensure that they cast their votes for candidates of their choice. (NAN)
