HANOI – Rescuers were on Wednesday struggling to free 12 workers at a hydro-power plant in Vietnam’s Central Highlands who were trapped after a section of tunnel collapsed, an official has said.
The Rescue official, Le Viet told newsmen that rising water was making rescue efforts very dangerous.
“Rescue forces are pumping the water out; all 12 workers stuck in the tunnel are sitting on scaffolding.
“It could take two days to reach the workers, Viet said.
According to a report, the accident occurred at around 7 am on Tuesday after a 30-metre section of the tunnel at the plant in Lam Dong province collapsed during heavy rain.
Reports say after the heard cries for help from inside the tunnel, rescuers drilled a hole to pump in oxygen and send food to those trapped inside.
It said that the section collapsed 500 metres from the tunnel entrance. (dpa/NAN)
